The Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church in the Wenchi West District of the Mid-West Ghana Conference, located in the Bono Region, recently honored 20 young girls for maintaining their virginity.
The girls, aged between 13 and 16, were celebrated during a special Thanksgiving service over the weekend.
As reported by GhanaWeb, the event, organized by the Young Adventist Women Ministries, is aimed to encourage moral integrity and foster holistic development in young women, aligning with Christian and cultural values.
Each of the honourees received financial support, although the specific amounts were not disclosed.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs. Nana Amponsah Poku, Coordinator of the Young Adventist Women Ministries, underscored the importance of building self-confidence, making wise life decisions, and preserving moral purity.
She urged the girls to uphold their values and choose their friends carefully in the coming year.
“God created you uniquely beautiful, and you must not allow anyone to lure you into breaking your virginity until marriage,” Mrs. Poku advised. Reflecting on traditional practices such as the Bragoro and Dipo rites, she highlighted their historical significance in safeguarding virginity and curbing teenage pregnancies, which have detrimental effects on young girls’ growth and future opportunities.
Associate Pastor Andrews Dua Bour Kyereh commended the girls for their discipline and commitment to their faith. He encouraged them to prioritize their education and spiritual lives, urging others within the church and the broader community to emulate their example.
The ceremony, which celebrated the values of discipline, purity, and self-respect, served as a call to action for young women to uphold moral standards while pursuing personal and educational growth.
